The first guest to spend the night in the hotel on 30 May 1931 was President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Residence U Jiřího z Poděbrad was built in the period of Modernism in 1932, right before the rise of pure Functionalism. The facade was reconstructed in accordance with the architectural style of the building, thus a combination of brick-red protruding panels between the windows in contrast with a light background was chosen. There are beautiful terrazzo floors with dark purfling in the hallways and the original metal railing in the stairwells.
