One of the most distinctive buildings of modern Prague is celebrating a major milestone this year. In June, the Dancing House will commemorate 30 years since its opening, with the celebrations symbolically launched by the exhibition Dancing House: The Story of an Iconic Building at the Dancing House Gallery. The exhibition opens to the public on 22 April 2026.
The exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the building’s origins, architecture, and transformation over time, tracing how it has become one of Prague’s defining symbols over the past three decades. Visitors can explore previously unpublished archival materials, historical photographs, and videos documenting the site’s evolution from the 19th century to the present day. The display also features authentic interior elements from the 1990s, including glass tables by architect Eva Jiřičná, original doors, and lighting fixtures. For the first time, areas that are usually closed to the public will also be accessible. The exhibition provides insight into the building’s technical facilities as well as its inner courtyard, broadening the perception of the Dancing House to include lesser-known yet essential aspects of its operation.
A significant part of the exhibition is dedicated to collaboration with the Frank O. Gehry Foundation, offering a closer look at the architects Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunić through personal artefacts, period press materials, and original design documentation. A highlight of the exhibition is a model of the Dancing House on loan from the National Gallery Prague, complemented by a newly created, highly detailed model at a scale of 1:18, standing over two metres tall. The exhibition also incorporates modern technologies, including 3D visualisations, interactive presentations, and digital content that allow visitors to explore the building’s structural and architectural solutions in detail.
The gallery is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm. The exhibition will run until 18 October 2026. More information about the anniversary is available on the dedicated microsite www.td30.cz, where visitors can also share their own memories connected to the Dancing House.
