Yesterday, we received the ThePrime Awards in the category Best Reconstruction Project for the reconstruction of the Grand department store in Pardubice. Grand, a functionalist palace designed by architect Josef Gočár, is one of the most significant buildings in the city centre. Our goal was to build on its architectural value while creating a modern space that meets the needs of today’s Pardubice.
Led by atelier OVA, the reconstruction has delivered a new retail destination with more than 3,500 m² of space, a food hall, CineStar boutique cinema, and a future coworking area beneath a glass vault. For us, this award is a confirmation that the sensitive restoration of historic buildings can be a way to return architectural heritage to cities in a new and vibrant form. We would like to thank all our partners and construction teams who contributed to the transformation of Grand.
