The premium residential project Vanguard in Prague’s Modřany district has gained a new artistic dimension. In July, the light sculpture MEANDR – a glass relief by sculptor Matěj Hájek – was installed in its premises. The artwork was commissioned by PSN and created in collaboration with SKULL studio and Lasvit Fusing.
The sculpture is placed in the ceiling above the pool in the wellness zone, originally adapted from a former civil defense shelter in the building’s underground floors. Its inspiration comes from the Vltava riverbed near Vrané nad Vltavou – a landscape visible from Vanguard’s top floors. The abstract motif of a river meander brings an element of surrounding nature into the interior, connecting themes of memory and landscape with contemporary design.
“Landscape is an allegory of memory. Striking natural features that catch the eye stay in our recollections. The riverbed shapes the character of Vanguard’s surroundings – the verticals of the Vltava valley. The MEANDR sculpture brings this landscape indoors and develops the contrast between imagination and reality,” explains sculptor Matěj Hájek.
The relief was created using the technique of kiln-formed glass. With precise backlighting, it resembles a landscape map seen from above and naturally integrates into the space above the pool. The installation reflects Vanguard’s concept of linking the industrial past of the former Microna factory with modern design and functional living.
Vanguard has introduced loft living with river views, hotel-level services, and architecture inspired by major world metropolises to the Prague residential market. In addition to unique apartments, the building also offers a wellness and fitness area, a rooftop terrace, and gallery spaces. The MEANDR sculpture further enhances this concept and underlines the project’s unique character.
