We are expanding our activities in Pardubice with the launch of Grand Space, a new coworking hub created as part of the renovation of the iconic Grand department store. The project was recently awarded Best Reconstruction Project of the Year at ThePrime Awards.
Grand Space offers a flexible working environment for individuals and small teams alike. The coworking hub features an open workspace with a capacity of 11 desks, adaptable meeting rooms for up to 24 people, and an outdoor terrace suitable not only for work, but also for corporate gatherings and events. The concept naturally builds on the character of the building and its prime location in the very heart of Pardubice. In addition to professional workspace facilities, users benefit from direct access to the department store’s amenities, including gastronomy and a wide range of services.
“Grand Space was designed as a workspace that reflects the way people work today. It is flexible, accessible, and naturally connected to the city. We believe it will appeal both to individuals and to smaller companies looking for high-quality facilities without the need for long-term commitments,” says Ondřej Heřman, Director of PSN’s Pardubice branch.
The new coworking concept responds to the growing demand for flexible working solutions while complementing the service offering of the Grand department store, which has been transformed into a modern multifunctional destination following its renovation.
Grand as a Contemporary Urban Hub
Grand Space forms part of the broader transformation of the Grand department store, one of Pardubice’s most significant functionalist landmarks designed by renowned architect Josef Gočár. Over recent years, the building has undergone a sensitive renovation led by architectural studio OVA, preserving its First Republic character while adapting it to the needs of contemporary urban life.
The project builds on Grand’s original vision as a multifunctional centre and expands it with new layers of use — alongside retail and gastronomy, it now also offers a workspace environment and facilities for community gathering. The renovation introduced more than 3,500 sqm of retail and service areas, a food hall, and cultural facilities including a boutique cinema.
The architectural concept carefully references original features such as the marble staircase and geometric tiling, reinterpreting them through a contemporary design language. One of the project’s defining elements is the glass atrium facing třída Míru, complemented by art installations by Jiří Macht and other artists. The renovation of Grand received the Best Reconstruction Project award at ThePrime Awards, further confirming the quality and sensitivity of the restoration of this important urban landmark.
“We have always seen Grand as a place of exceptional importance for Pardubice. Our ambition was to restore its natural role as a centre of city life and enrich it with functions that people genuinely use today — including high-quality workspace facilities,” concludes Ondřej Heřman.
